Notebook-Inspired Engagement Session

Engagements

July 26, 2024

As a photographer, every once in a while, you get to witness and capture something truly magical. Olivia and Rayn’s engagement session at Sleepy Hollow State Park in Laingsburg, Michigan, was one of those unforgettable moments. Inspired by the timeless romance of *The Notebook*, their session was a perfect blend of nostalgia, love, and a touch of Hollywood magic.

The Setting

With its serene lake and lush greenery, Sleepy Hollow State Park provided the perfect backdrop for Olivia and Rayn’s engagement photos. The park’s peaceful ambiance and natural beauty mirrored the love story we aimed to capture—a classic tale of love, adventure, and forever.

As we arrived, the golden hues of the sunset began to stretch across the sky, casting a warm glow over everything. The timing couldn’t have been more perfect. It was as if nature itself was celebrating Olivia and Rayn’s love.

The Inspiration

When looking for inspiration photos, Olivia was drawn to the images inspired by “The Notebook,” and choose this as the theme for their engagement session. It was a brilliant choice! From the iconic rowboat scene to the tender moments by the water, Olivia and Rayn wanted to recreate some of the film’s most beloved scenes. Their outfits were carefully chosen to reflect the era, adding a timeless elegance to the shoot.

Megan, the talented owner of Northern Sky Floral, helped design the session and did an incredible job setting up the perfect props and details. She created a dreamy tea setup, complete with a vintage blanket, and even a couple of floral pillows to compliment her beautiful blossoms. As I watched Olivia and Rayn share a moment, I couldn’t help but sing “This is what dreams are made of” under my breath.

Capturing the Magic

As the session began, the couple’s chemistry was undeniable. They laughed, constantly whispered “I love you,” and held each other close, creating candid moments that were a joy to capture. The sunset added a soft, romantic light, casting a beautiful glow on their faces. Each frame felt like a scene from a movie, filled with genuine emotion and love.

One of my favorite moments was capturing them in the rowboat on the lake. As they floated gently on the water, the sun dipped below the horizon, painting the sky in shades of pink and orange. It was a scene straight out of a fairy tale, and Olivia and Rayn’s love was the perfect centerpiece.

As a Michigan wedding photographer, it’s sessions like these that remind me why I love what I do. Olivia and Rayn’s Notebook-inspired engagement shoot was not just about taking pictures; it was about telling their love story through images. The combination of a beautiful setting, a romantic theme, and a couple deeply in love made this session a true highlight.

The experience was made even more special by the incredible work of Megan, whose attention to detail and creativity brought the entire vision to life. Together, we created a session that Olivia and Rayn will cherish forever, a visual storybook of their love.

Olivia and Rayn’s Notebook-inspired engagement session at Sleepy Hollow State Park was nothing short of magical. It was a celebration of their love, captured through the lens and inspired by one of the most beloved love stories of all time. As the sun set on that perfect day, I knew we had created something truly special—moments that they would treasure for a lifetime.
