A few months after I discovered my love of empowering women through boudoir portraits, Ashley reached out about doing a maternity session. Maternity sessions have always been on my radar, but when she asked about doing more of a maternity BOUDOIR session, I was in! We immediately booked a studio in Downtown Ann Arbor, Michigan, reached out to Gals & Ghouls Makeup Artistry for hair and make up, and got the ball rolling.
During Ashley’s Zoom outfit consultation, I knew her session was going to be epic! She wanted to show off her amazing body (20-week baby bump and all), but to stay true to her personality as well.
The Session
When we all showed up and I saw how long her typical faux-hawk had gotten, we embraced it. Meghan from Gals & Ghouls did an amazing job harnessing the mom-to-be’s edge while letting the hair and make up enhance Ashley’s natural beauty.
Since boudoir sessions are more about the body than the outfits, we decided on a couple classic lace lingerie sets. Nothing too crazy, right?. While she was shopping, she found a casual Calvin Klein set that we paired with a cozy sweater, and during her session, we went rogue with a sparkly body suit from my client closet that went with her white Doc Martin’s! We decided to throw in a flowy maternity dress for good measure, but then came the fun part: by the end of her session, Ashley was having a blast and suggested only wearing her birthday suit! So freaking bold! I absolutely loved being able to show off her mid-pregnancy gym-bod covered in works of art!
